Low Carbon Future with Wood Construction

May 16 - 1:35 pm / 2:10 pm

Panel discussion at LIGNA 2023: Low Carbon Future with Wood Construction. 16 May | 13:45–14:10 (CEST) | Hall 12, Stand A16. Four male speakers: Manuel García Barbero, Dr Jan Wenker, Dr Andreas Kleinschmit von Lengefeld, and Inazio Martinez de Arano.

The panel discussion explores the future of wood construction in Europe — and its challenges and opportunities. Wood is well-recognized for its low carbon emissions, ability to create energy-efficient buildings, and potential for circular design, reducing residues in the construction and deconstruction faces to a minimum. Wood could play a much larger role in standard apartment buildings in our cities and in renovating and upgrading existing buildings. In this context, the panellists, coming from research, the construction industry and wood architecture, will focus on challenges for making wood construction the first choice for unique and standard constructions and for renovating old buildings, including through hybrid construction solutions. They discuss the barriers to overcome to transition from niche to norm in both new construction and old building renovations.
