CARpenTiER and WoodC.A.R.: Innovative wood applications in automotive engineering
CARpenTiER and WoodC.A.R. projects focus on innovative applications of wood in automotive and mechanical engineering. CARpenTiER aims to develop production technologies for wood-based hybrid structures, using materials like laminated wood and natural fibre-reinforced composites, reducing weight by 10–40% and lowering emissions. It emphasises process development and dynamic control through digital twins. WoodC.A.R. (Computer Aided Research) aims to develop new wood applications in the automotive sector, strengthening the timber and mobility industries. Through cross-innovation, the project advances virtual calculation methods and simulation techniques, accelerating product development and highlighting wood as a high-performance, lightweight material. Both projects are supported by consortia of academic and industrial partners, funded by initiatives like the COMET programme, to promote sustainability and innovation in the mobility sector.
