Antarr investment: enhancing resilience and productivity of Portuguese forests

Antarr is a company that invests in nature-based solutions. It aims to create social, environmental, and economic values through Natural Capital restoration through a multifunctional and multiproduct forest, enhancing biodiversity and involving communities in the management plans. The company aims to operate large management units under long-term lease contracts to ensure the restoration of ecosystems and reestablish their productive potential. Multifunctionality is ensured using different forest species, the maintenance and enhancement of ecological corridors, the conservation of habitats and the protection of water and soil. The products obtained range from traditional wood, cork, and fruits to emerging products, such as carbon and biodiversity credits. The main barriers to investment are access to large tracts of land, human desertification, and the slow and heavy bureaucratic licencing processes, originating from a tangle of laws and rules combined with the involvement of different public administration entities in the decision-making process.
